Tennessee Grand Commandery Officers the Order of the Temple

The Northeast Tennessee York Rite Association had their Spring Festival in Kingsport, Tennessee, on April 19 and 26, 2008. The Chapter and Council degrees were conferred on a class of ten on April 19, and the Commandery Orders were conferred on a class of seven on April 26, 2008. (The other candidates will receive their Orders at their respective Commandery Inspection later this year.)
The following officers, who have moved up since, participated: R.E. Grand Commander Von Lewis conferred the Order of the Temple, V.E. Deputy Grand Commander Ray Covey filled the station of Standard Bearer, E. Grand Generalissimo Robert Waldon was Generalissimo, and E. Grand Captain General Glenn Beck was Captain General.

Ground Breaking for Texas Masonic Retirement Center, Arlington

The Texas Masonic Retirement Center in Arlington, Texas, broke ground on March 27 for a new 5-story, $9 million facility to expand its services to Texas Masons.
Some facts on the Retirement Center include the following: The Center, an Arlington fixture since 1907, plans the $9 million expansion to add a 55,000square-foot apartment facility at its current location. The new building will house 24 apartments, physical therapy facilities, and office space.
The Retirement community attracts senior members of the Masonic fraternity and its affiliated organizations from across the state. Only they are eligible to become residents.
A full range of services is provided to the nearly 180 current residents. Some individuals and couples live fully independently, taking advantage of the meal service, medical facilities, security, social interaction, and regularly scheduled transportation, etc., while others receive skilled nursing care provided on a 24-hour basis.
The Texas Masonic Retirement Center was established in 1907 in Arlington by the Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Texas as the Home for Aged Masons. One reason for selecting Arlington as the site for the home was rail access, then the preferred mode for long distance travel.
In the picture are those involved directly in the groundbreaking. Second from left is Clarence Joy Laney, Most Excellent Grand High Priest of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Texas. Members of the TMRC Board joining him are, from left, Floyd Hall, Ray Elliott, and Steve Wolf. (submitted by R.W. Jerry Cooper)

Successful Spring Festival Held at Box Ranch, Florida by Sir Knight Leroy Fackler, R.E. Grand Commander of Florida

The Spring Festival in Indiantown was held in honor of Most Illustrious George E. Malone in loving memory of his wife Barbara Malone, who passed away on February 22, 2008.
The Festival started on Friday night, February 29, 2008, with the conferring of the first three degrees of the Chapter. The rest of the degrees were done on Saturday.
This was the first time that the work for the Spring Festival was performed outdoors on a ranch. The Order of the Temple started at 7:00 P.M. at the back of the ranch: A platform was built for the event; it was 32 feet wide by 40 feet long and had a small raised stage at one end. Since there was no electricity, the Orders of the Commandery were done with lanterns and tiki torches. To add to the drama, somewhere nearby, two packs of coyotes were howling while the Order of the Temple was being performed.
The members and candidates all enjoyed the work and the atmosphere but not the giant mosquitoes. Nevertheless, everyone involved has expressed interest in performing the work at the same location next year if possible.
A total of 37 were exalted, and 37 were greeted. A total of 39 were Knighted. As the Grand Commander of Florida, I will say that this was one of the best conferring of the degrees and orders that I have been involved in, and I hope that we can do it again. Thank you to all the Companions and Sir Knights who worked very hard to make this event happen, and I am especially grateful to Sir Knight Paul Friend: without his taking charge, this festival could not have taken place.
