Northeastern Department Sir Knight John M. Lewis was born June26,1947, in Baltimore, Maryland, to Marianna and Harold M. Lewis. He moved to Wilmington, Delaware, in 1953 and then moved to Carlisle, Pennsylvania, in 1969. He was educated at Brandywine High School, Wilmington, Delaware, and then at Salem College, Salem, West Virginia, receiving a B.S. in Human Relations. He attended Millersville University, Pennsylvania, and received a teaching certificate in Industrial Arts.
Sir Knight Lewis served in the 441st Personnel Service Company as a Spec.4, U.S. Army Reserves, from 1970-1976.He has been employed as an Employment Supervisor, Rite Aid Corp., 1971-1974; an Industrial Arts Teacher, Harrisburg, 1975-1977; and as a Technology Education Teacher,Big Spring, 1977-2005. He retired June 8, 2005. In the community he is a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Carlisle Lodge No. 578, B.P.O. Elks, and is a Merit Badge Counselor, B.S.A. He also belongs to the Cumberland Valley Corvette Club. His hobbies are sailing, woodworking, stamp collecting, gardening, and collecting Masonic memorabilia.
Sir Knight Lewis married Jean L. Ringer on June 7, 1969. Jean retired as an elementary teacher in 2002.She taught grade 1 and 2 for 33 years. She is a member of Eastern Star and S.O.O.B. They have one son Christopher, age 29, who graduated from West Chester University. Son Chris and Sir Knight Lewis are both Eagle Scouts, and Chris was also Pennsylvania State Treasurer, Order of DeMolay, in 1994.Sir Knight Lewis and his Lady Jean reside in Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
Sir Knight Lewis' Lodge background is as follows: Big Spring Lodge No. 361, F. & A.M., 1981; Worshipful Master, 1988; Trustee, 1989-1991;Treasurer of the Temple Assn., 1986-1991; and Representative to the PA Youth Foundation, 1983-2005. He transferred to St. John's Lodge No. 260, F. & A.M., in 2005.
In Capitular Masonry, he belonged to St. John's Royal Arch Chapter No. 171,1989; Most Excellent High Priest, 1994 and 1995; and was President of District No. 4 and No. 10 School of Instruction, 1995. In Cryptic Masonry: St. John's Council No. 5, R. & S.M., 1991; Thrice Illustrious Master, 1993; Treasurer,1995 and 1996; Council of Anointed Kings, 1993; Order of the Silver Trowel. In Chivalric Masonry: St. John's Commandery No. 8, 1990; Commander, 1992 and 1993; Sovereign Order of Knights Preceptor, 1992; Grand Commandery of PA Membership Award, 1993; Drill Team Captain, 1994; and PA Chairman for the 27th Annual Voluntary Campaign of the
KTEF. He was Division Commander, 1995-1997; President of the Line Officers and Past Commanders Association of South-Central PA in 1995; Chairman of the Public Relations Committee, 1995-2000,
where he developed a new "Guidelines for Publicity and Public Relations." He also served as Chairman, Membership Committee, 1998-1999 and developed a Membership Manual, serves as Chairman
of the Leadership, Development and Training Committee, 2003-present, and is a member of the Educational Foundation Committee, 2003-2008 He is the Grand Representative to Delaware, 2003-Present and was Grand Commander, 2002-2003.
Sir Knight Lewis is a Life Sponsor, KTEF; a member of the Grand Commander's Club and Grand Master's Club of the KTEF; and received the Grand Encampment Membership Award in 1994, Bronze Cluster, 1996. He is a holder of the Knight Commander of the Temple, 2005, a member of the Forty Fivers, 2002; the Easter Sunrise Memorial Service Committee, 63rd triennium,2003-2006; and is now the Northeastern Department Commander for the 64th triennium, appointed by M.E. Richard B. Baldwin at the 63rd Triennial Conclave in Houston, Texas.
