The Seniors EyeCare Program
Persons who are 65 years of age or older, and have not seen an Ophthalmologist should call the Seniors EyeCare Program at 1-800-222-EYES. Be sure to state that a Knight Templar has referred you.
The 40th Annual Voluntary Campaign begins October 1, 2007. Now is the time to plan how you will support your Charity during this campaign. $10.00 per Sir Knight is a reasonable choice for each of us.
Words of Appreciation from those we help
Dear Knights Templar Sight Savers:
Because of the Knights Templar generosity my cataract surgery on my second eye was completed on June 27th.
It has made a remarkable world of difference for me. The surgery has changed my quality of life immensely. I was on the verge of perhaps having to give up my part time job and my independence because my vision was failing so rapidly.
I am ever so grateful for your organization's generosity and caring. I now will be able to keep my job rather than falling into the welfare line. And that means the world to me too! Thank You doesn't even describe the gratitude I feel for the Knights Templar.
Case #82359
Remember When……
… A penny was a small treasure that would buy something really swell like a Grab Bag full of goodies!
… We never locked our doors
… and the hitchhiker along the side of the road was more than likely a young soldier making his way home to the farm.
… A cast iron skillet was a lifetime investment, and passed on from generation to generation.
… Doctors made house calls.
… Kids played freely in the neighborhoods
… and lemonade stands and kick-ball games were regular sights.
… You went to bed on cold winter nights with a hot brick wrapped in an old towel because the upstairs wasn't heated.
… Milk was delivered right to your door (and in winter frozen cream pushed the caps off the milk bottles).
… Boys played baseball, marbles and mumblety-peg.
… Girls played jacks, cut out paper dolls, or organized neighborhood jump-rope or hop-scotch competitions.
… Work was work … and we were grateful for any opportunity - no matter how humble - to put food on the table for our families.
… Christmas morning meant exchanging gifts bought with hoarded pennies, nickels and dimes, while sharing cups of hot chocolate and homemade cinnamon rolls with those you loved most.
SOME THOUGHTS THAT SHOULD SPEAK TO US!
TIPS FROM BENJAMIN FRANKLIN
The best things to give-
To an opponent - tolerance
To an enemy - forgiveness
To a friend - understanding
To a child - a good example
To your father - reverence
To your mother - conduct that will make her proud of you
To yourself - respect
To all men - Charity
WISE WORDS FROM ABRAHAM LINCOLN
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. You cannot help the wage earner by pulling down the wage payer. You cannot further the brotherhood of man by encouraging class hatred. You cannot keep out of trouble by spending more than you earn. You cannot build character and courage by taking away man's initiative and independence. You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could, and should do, for themselves.
An Old English Prayer
Give us, Lord, a bit of sun,
A bit of work, and a bit of fun.
Give us, in all the struggle and sputter,
Our daily bread, and a bit of butter.
Give us health, our keep to make,
And a bit to spare for other's sake.
Give us, too, a bit of song,
And a friend, and a book to help us along.
Give us, Lord, a chance to be
Our goodly best, brave, wise and free-
Our goodly best for ourselves and others,
Till all men learn to live as brothers.
AND OLD SAYING: "Even if you're on the right track, you'll get run over if you just sit there".
